Welcome to the new website for the SAGE Farmers Market. We’re very proud of it and we hope you enjoy using it. There’s still more information being added, but all the important stuff is here and we couldn’t wait to show it off to everyone!
The real reason behind this flash new website is the exciting development of the e-commerce we’ve been planning for over a year and which will finally enter the testing phase at the end of 2014. It’s a massive project that’s taken a long time to get going, but with the assistance of grants from the Seeds of Renewal program and NSW Trade and Industry, we now have the means to get this project off the ground.
What is it? It’s our effort to open the market up to more customers that can’t make it to the physical market on Tuesday afternoons before 5pm. The early phases will be modest in scale, but we have big dreams of becoming part of a much bigger supply chain for local food all up and down the NSW south coast. This will stimulate more demand for our existing growers, but SAGE is also focussed on encouraging more growers becoming established in our area. We need more growers. To paraphrase that famous line, by creating this infrastructure, more commercial growers will come.
How will it work?
Existing stall holders at the market will have the option to also list their products on this website. Each week, the shop will open at a set time and the mailing list will be notified that the shop is open. Customers will be able to order and purchase online from their favourite producers. The shop will then be closed a couple of days before the Tuesday market and customers will collect their orders from the producers at the market.
Eventually, we’d like to provide a delivery service, but that requires a huge amount of capital that we simply don’t have. For now, we hope that people who can’t get to the market at 3pm will use this service to pre-order for pickup at the market at a time that suits them. They don’t need to feel like they’re missing out anymore.
If you want to stay up to date with the progress of this project, then sign up to the mailing list. This list will also be used for sending out notifications every time the shop is open for business.
So have a look around our new site. Tell us what you think! Drop us a line from our contact page. There’s still more to come, like recipes using produce you can buy at the market, but we’d love to hear your ideas too.
