When shopping madness is a good thing

Well, that’s our first Christmas market done and dusted. What a coincidence Christmas Eve was a Tuesday this year. We really didn’t know what to expect, but we did what our miniscule advertising budget would allow us to do and tried to generate some news in the local media to remind people that they could get the freshest possible food on their Christmas Day table this year.

And boy, did people respond! It was a whopper! Packed! Shoulder to shoulder! The asparagus sold out in 15 minutes, for cryin’ out loud!

And of course, the big man was there too.

It was all hands to the pump for all our stall holders today. So exciting to see and so gratifying that the public were clamouring for the amazing quality of produce our stall holders bring to the market.

What more evidence do we need that people want — expect? demand? — quality, fresh, local food on their tables? There will be hundreds of Christmas tables groaning with this amazing food tomorrow and I feel confident that I can speak for everyone involved in getting this market happening every week when I say, that is the most satisfying thought I can think right at this moment, 15 minutes before Christmas.

Merry Christmas from all of us to all of you.

See you next week (it’s New Year’s Eve!!).
